Poco-a Poco ...
Something is happening. Sitting at the piano this week I realized that I have already experienced some of what I am reaching for right now. I have had no trouble finding chords and key signature for a while, similarly, my creativity is returning too. Lyrics, so many lyrics falling this week, and all relating to the concept which has been on my mind. Those things have felt like a resurgence.
Something new for me is playing the chord progressions in rhythmic patterns. My mentor played me a progression over the phone and told me to play it. I charged it up to fit the song I was working on, but something unlocked. He said to only play one note with my left hand, from the unarpeggiated triad which I am playing in my right - which is the opposite of how I have approached writing before.
He says that is key...pardon the pun. He also says Poco a Poco which means little by little. He says that a lot.
On Friday, though I cannot name the time signature, I created a different rhythmic pattern under a section of the song which veered from the 4/4 of the first section then returning 4/4 several times. Assigning timing and rhythm is new equipping. He wants me to be able to walk into a room full of musicians and intelligently communicate what I want them to play, and how I would like it played.
This morning, I think I laid the foundations for 2 more songs, lyrics/poetry only for those. I took stock and realize that I have one or two other songs written a while back which fit within the boundaries of the concept album. I believe that I should have a nice pile of songs to work with and to pull from for an upcoming project. This is work, real work. I am making progress.
This week one of my songs received airplay of songs released last winter. It has been a week of consistent work. One of my songs was placed on a Spotify playlist.
